Kit: A line of cones to split the hall, mats for half the room, dumbbells or kettlebells on one side only, one shared timer both coaches can hear. A mic for whoever leads if the hall eats voices.
One Room, Then Two
Setup: Agree the coaching contract before doors open, because forty people will expose any crack in it: Coach A leads the room and owns the timer; Coach B mirrors, demos and sweeps for form. Hand signals agreed — one arm up means 30 seconds left, crossed arms means kill the round. Cone line laid down the middle, kit side loaded, mat side clear.
How it works: Warm up as one room, both coaches on the front line together — the double act must be seen before it splits. Four minutes of follow-along: marching, arm circles, squats building depth, lunge steps, climbers at half pace. Then the split, run like theatre: count the room A-B-A-B down the line, send the As left and Bs right, and let the two coaches walk to their kingdoms as the sides settle. Explain the night in one sentence each: your side, your coach, halfway through you swap — and yes, the sides are being compared all night.
What to say
- “Learn your coach's face — in a room this size, hand signals beat sentences.”
- “You're an A or a B now — that letter is your team, your side, and your alibi.”
- “The beep runs this class — coaches included. When it speaks, we all obey.”
- “Spread out inside your half — fingertips can't touch a neighbour or you're too close.”
Easier
March everything; the split walk is rest built in.
Harder
Final 30 seconds of the follow-along at double tempo before the split.
