Kit: One mat per member, a folded towel or small cushion each for heads and knees. Nothing else — precision is the equipment.
Find Neutral
Setup: Mats in tidy rows with walking aisles between — you will spend the whole class moving along them. Everyone on their back, knees bent, feet hip-width.
How it works: Teach the two ideas the next 25 minutes run on. Neutral spine: rock the pelvis to flatten the low back, then over-arch it, then settle in the quiet middle — the natural small gap under the low back. Then the breath: in through the nose wide into the ribs, out slowly through pursed lips while the deep belly gently draws in, like hugging the spine from the inside. Six breaths in neutral, then arm floats — one arm reaches overhead on the exhale, ribs staying heavy, alternating ×6.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the neutral-spine teach to save time — every later exercise is built on it; the five minutes pays for the twenty-five.
What to say
- “Neutral is the quiet middle — not pressed flat, not arched proud.”
- “Exhale like fogging a mirror slowly; feel the waist gently narrow.”
- “Arm floats: if the ribs pop up, the arm went further than the core agreed to.”
Easier
Cushion under the head; smaller arm float, elbows soft.
Harder
Float both arms together while the ribs stay down.
