Kit: 8 cones for two shuttle lanes, steps or low benches (one per 4 members), 6–8 light dumbbells (4–8kg), mats. Rowers, bikes or ski machines slot straight into station one if your floor has them.
Find Your Gears
Setup: Stations pre-built around the room (see the map in the next block). Group gathers in the shuttle lane.
How it works: Teach the gearbox first, because the whole session is driven by it. Gear 1: walking, full sentences. Gear 2: easy movement, chatting happily. Gear 3: working, short sentences only. Gear 4: hard, three words at most. Then feel them in the legs: one minute in each of gears one to three up and down the lane — walk, jog, stronger jog — with thirty seconds of gear one between. Finish with leg swings, hip openers and ten squats.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the gear teach — without it, half the room sprints minute one and dies by minute ten.
What to say
- “Tonight lives in gear three — strong but repeatable, short sentences.”
- “Gears are personal: one member's gear three is another's walk, and both are right.”
- “Calibrate honestly now — the intervals only work if the gears are true.”
Easier
Gears one and two only in the rehearsal; the class runs fine one gear lower throughout.
Harder
Add three strides of gear four, 10 seconds each, walk-back recovery.
